Fun and fulfilling is my quick review of d.Construct this year. No, wait. Cheap, fun and fulfilling. That's better. Sure, there are other ways to spend £85 in Brighton, but I doubt you'd get 8 hours of hot user experience action elsewhere.
We've heard the gist plenty of times: As far as the customer is concerned, the interface is the product. Sitting in a room and hearing it in a variety of different ways can only do good. And as it was less technical than the previous d.Construct I attended, I could sit back and soak up the speaker's words.
As far as specifics go, the highlights for me were:
- Having a vision statement, or an experience vision, for a product is a good idea: it helps direct you, it helps measure progress, it helps guide you when having to make trade-offs.
- Give up competing on features and technology, and instead compete on the experience. That's my reading of Peter Merholz's presentation.
Jane has a more complete write-up of the day, and you'll find all the photos in the usual place.
